Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Many children with autism love letters.  Some call it "obsessed"...some call it "fixated"...some call it "hyperlexia".  I call it a skill...and a chance to connect.  Early reading can be a wonderful thing.  It can also be a learning style.  For these kids, you might put "ABCs" all over the visual schedules.  You might include more written instructions (with pictures as needed) for their tasks.

A great book for my friends who love letters: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault.  Here is storytime with Mrs Elizabeth (and Emma).  Emma wants you to know that she has a bandaid on her cheek...just like letter "f"!  (She accidentally walked right in front of her big brother on the swing this week...oops!  Emma is o-kay.  :) )

There are letter activities all over the store, internet, and pinterest.  Here are some of my favorites:

The ABC matching task box can be found here.

Lucas really enjoyed videos called Meet the Sight Words.  There are 3 levels and you can purchase them in DVD or digital format on amazon.

We have also had fun with the app "Sightword Ninja".

A quick google search for "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Free Printables" will bring you lots of things you could print and use with your child at home.
